Sign up to sleep out at St James Park

A night under the stars awaits participants of the Big Sleep Out at St James Park on Friday, 14 March. The event, organised by Exeter City Community Trust (ECCT), invites individuals to experience a night outdoors while raising funds to support the homeless.

ECCT, the charitable partner of Exeter City Football Club, will use proceeds to support its Supported Housing programme. Launched in 2021, this initiative aids those at risk of homelessness in Exeter. It focuses on empowering individuals with life skills, confidence, and support to maintain tenancies and transition to independent living.

“Homelessness is a growing concern in our region, and we are dedicated to making a difference,” said Jamie Vittles, ECCT Chief Executive. “Through our Supported Housing Service, we offer safe accommodation, guidance, and support to help individuals rebuild their lives and gain independence.”

Participants in the Big Sleep Out are encouraged to bring warm clothing, a sleeping bag, and a positive outlook as they brave the cold for one night.

For £15, those taking part will contribute directly to the charity’s work while raising awareness about homelessness. ECCT hopes participants will raise at least £100 each in sponsorship to further its efforts.

Vittles added, “The Big Sleep Out not only raises vital funds but also builds awareness of the struggles faced by some of the most vulnerable in our community.”

St Petrock’s, an Exeter homeless charity, reports that over 600 people annually face homelessness and significant challenges in the city and surrounding areas. ECCT’s Supported Housing programme accommodates a diverse range of individuals, including veterans, single parents, care leavers, and people fleeing domestic violence.
